WINNERS!
Wow...it doesn't seem like it's already been more
than two months since we announced our Short Story Contest,
and here it is already time to pick the winners. Time
flies when you're having fun, I guess.
When we first announced the contest, we were afraid that
we'd only get a few entries...were we wrong! All in
all we received almost thirty entries, and all of them
were enjoyable and great fun to read. A big thanks to everyone
who entered--we wish we had BABYs for all of you, but
unfortunately that's not possible. Instead, we hope those
of you who didn't win will accept our gratitude for giving
us some fun stories to read, and we also hope that you had
as much fun writing them as we did reading them.
Anyway, let's get on to the important part: the winners!
It was a close contest, but we think we have chosen three
solid, well-written stories to fill the top spots. Without
further ado...
FIRST PLACE WINNER
A Model Citizen
by Karl Low
This story nudged out the second-place finisher to grab our
BABY. Ivory is the hottest thing on the runway tonight...but
what will tomorrow bring?
SECOND PLACE WINNER
Scene of the Crime
by Christine M. Thompson
When an extraction goes awry, you cut your losses and run, right?
Not if you're a member of this team, you don't.
THIRD PLACE WINNER
Sweet Oblivion
by Rand Ratinac
Shannon was the best at what she did...but unfortunately for her
employer, this one turned out to be personal.
HONOURABLE MENTION
Deep, Dark Secrets
by Geoff Skellams
Underwater action as a journalist and a rigger race against Aztechnology
forces to recover a long-buried treasure.
HONOURABLE MENTION
Where Darkness Falls
by Jessica "Jett" Grota
They thought they were going after an Insect Queen--that would have been bad
enough...
HONOURABLE MENTION
Reunion
by Rand Ratinac
Micky Donovan was having a bad day...and things only get worse from
there.
Thank you very much to everyone who entered the Contest. The results
were very close, and we enjoyed very much reading all your great stories!
